"Bacon" Tempeh

8 oz. plain tempeh

Marinade

1/4 c. soy sauce or tamari

1/4 c. water

2 T. pure maple syrup

1 t. molasses

1 t. red wine or apple cidar vinegar

1/2 t. garlic powder

1/2 t. onion powder

1/2 t. liquid smoke

Whisk marinade ingredients together. Thinly slice the tempeh and place in a container that can be covered with a lid. Pour the marinade over the tempeh and cover with the lid. Gently shake the container to cover each of the pieces of tempeh. Marinate for at least 2 hours, shaking occasionally. The longer the soak, the better they will taste.

Preheat the over to 400 degrees.

Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and place tempeh on the sheet in a single layer. When oven is hot, bake for 20-25 minutes, watching closely after 20 minutes so that they do not burn.

Delicious served on a sandwich with lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, and avocado. YUM!

Tempeh is made from soy beans and is a good source of protein. It can often be found at specialty grocery stores.
